Beloved for their onions… respected for their wine… and now celebrated for dance? Dance crops up in the most delightful and unlikely places in the summertime, allowing you to get your ballet fix while exploring some of the great landscapes of the great northwest. This summer, Oregon Ballet Theatre returns to Walla Walla Washington to participate in their 2nd annual Walla Walla Summer Dance Festival, and you are cordially invited to make a weekend of it and join us!
The festival is the culmination of a weeklong summer dance lab for pre-professional dancers hosted under the aegis of Whitman College. Here’s all the details :
When: July 20 -27, with free events and demonstrations all week, culminating in a final festival performance on July 27th at 7:00 pm
Where: Cordiner Hall, Whitman College, Walla Walla Washington
For this year’s festival we’ll be performing alongside Nobility Mob, a hip hop dance troupe from LA and the John Passafiume Dancers, a modern contemporary company from New York City.
So what will we be bringing to the festival? Here’s a hint:
That’s right: A suite version of Christopher Stowell’s Cole Porter-inspired Eyes on You. The piece will feature Ansa Deguchi, Julia Rowe, Brian Simcoe, Lucas Threefoot and Javier Ubell.
Here’s the really fun part:
Our own Anne Mueller will be accompanying the tour and will be making a new piece, inspired by Walla Walla’s unique landscape, called Terroir that will be set on Company Artist Grace Shibley and a group of apprentice dancers from the Summer Dance Lab that is closely connected to the festival.
